Microphone No Longer Working

As the title says, my microphone is no longer working. I have spoken with a repair shop about it, and it is not the physical microphone. It is the hardware/board, and I was informed I was better off getting a new phone than trying to fix this issue. The only issue is I don't have the money at the moment for a new phone. Has anyone else had this issue / knows what to do before I go try and finance a new phone?

Your phone has at least two microphones; one at the bottom of the phone that you use when on a phone call, and another at the top that's used for recording videos, switching to speakerphone, etc. If neither one works, that would tend to support the diagnosis of the repair shop that it could be something like a failed audio chip or something along those lines. However, if one or the other does function, I would lean toward it most likely being the microphone itself, although it could theoretically be a connector issue, but frankly those are rare - but then again, so is a failed audio chip.

Let us know if it's just one or both of the microphones that's not working and we'll see if we can figure out something that might help. Make or receive a phone call and try switching to speakerphone and see if the person on the other end of the line can hear you in either case.

Hi @nobeliumsense

Just to add to the above, try connecting a set of headphones with a microphone attachment to the phone and check if you can be heard when on a call.

If you can then this proves the TX (transmission) circuit in the phone is working.

Dial #0#, a test menu should appear. Click on loopback. You should see 2 or 3 microphones. Click on number 1 and speak into the lower microphone, you should hear it come out of your ear speaker. Do the same with 2 which is on the top. if one doesn’t work then the audio chip should be ok and the microphone needs replaced. If there is no sound from either microphone then your board has a fault.
