Known as the ''PS2'', it is a sixth-generation video game console first released by Sony in Japan in March 2000. The United States saw it later in 2000 with the SCPH-30000. Repair of this device requires only common tools, but can get tricky.

Can I use thermal paste?

I'm getting a PS2 fat and was gonna replace the thermal pads. I was wondering if I could replace them with paste instead of new pads?

Hi!

I wouldn’t do this. Simply not meant for thermal paste and it can give you some issues.

But you can use special thermal paste that is meant to replace thermal pads! Like the K5-Pro.

The most easy way is just to replace the thermal pads for new ones. The most PS2 consoles do run fine these days without overheating or whatsoever.

I would first check how it goes, if it’s making a lot of noize, or experience overheating, I would replace it yes.
