Subaru introduced the "New Age" Impreza to Japan in August 2000. Larger in size compared to the previous iteration, the sedan increased its width.

What is this slow ticking sound? 2005 Subaru WRX

This is what the car sounded like before the timing belt job.

Just had the timing belt replaced and now the car is making this sound?

Hi @k0z6pua20f9xtwo

Just an observation but in the video it appears that the pulley on the left side of the alternator pulley is not rotating smoothly. It seems to be fast then slow then fast as if there's not enough tension on it by the serpentine belt.

Update (07/11/25)

Hi @k0z6pua20f9xtwo

You may have to check that the timing chain has been installed and adjusted correctly.

It's only got to be out by 1 tooth for a piston to hit a valve - see 2nd image (p.50→p.51)

Only got info about the H4DOTC engine (not the STi) which is used in a 2005 WRX, but it still may be of some help.

I removed the serpentine belt and it was still doing the same noise.
