Error after failed update bios

after update bios automatically

"My laptop's touchpad isn't working after shutting down. To get it working again, I have to close the laptop lid and open it again."

"My laptop always switches to tablet mode even when it's in laptop mode. And when I switch to tablet mode, the keyboard and touchpad still work, which makes it impossible for me to hold it like a tablet normally."

"And the Num Lock light is always on, even when the laptop is turned off. This issue seems to be connected to all the problems I'm experiencing. It has only returned to normal a few times, but after a few hours, it goes back to this state."

Hi @razors80198

Try this

go to:

https://ftp.ext.hp.com/pub/caps-softpaq/...

Use HP Image Assistant (HPIA)

to download and install the correct drivers and bios update on your pc.

Run the tool and click Analyze

Allow for some time to capture system configuration,

and install all packages that was listed on it.

After a failed or incomplete BIOS update, my laptop started acting abnormally. The touchpad stops working after shutdown and only resumes function when I close and reopen the lid. It frequently switches to tablet mode even when in laptop position, and oddly, the keyboard and touchpad remain active in tablet mode, making it unusable. Additionally, the Num Lock light stays on even when the laptop is completely powered off. These symptoms seem interconnected, possibly indicating firmware corruption. The system occasionally returns to normal, but the issues always come back after a few hours, suggesting the BIOS update didn’t apply correctly.

Your BIOS update likely caused power-state errors. Try this:

  1. Hard reset (unplug, hold power 30 sec).
  2. Update touchpad drivers in Device Manager.
  3. Disable auto tablet mode in Windows Settings.
  4. Reset BIOS to defaults (press F2/DEL at startup).
  5. Check for newer BIOS updates from manufacturer.

If problems continue, contact support—you may need a BIOS rollback.
