Computers that generally don't include an integrated display, and are meant to be stationary.

I think my GPU is dead. Can someone help?

For some context here, i had recently bought a rx 580 about 6 months ago and it had been working for about a month before one day i turned on my computer and my display showed gpu artifacts. They were lines of different colored pixels that went vertical across my screen. I have tried DDU and reinstalling the drivers multiple times.

Before i had a rx 580 i had a rx 550. I wondered if it was a any of my other parts fault so i reinstall my 550 and it worked fine. Can anybody help?

Hi @iambehindongpus

What is the wattage of the PSU in the PC?

The RX550 minimum PSU specs are 250W and for the RX580 it is 450W.

If the PC PSU isn't near the minimum required for the RX580 then you may have some problems especially when gaming due to the increased power required.

If the PSU specs are sufficient for the RX580 and it still doesn't work and the RX550 is OK, then most likely there's a problem on the RX580 GPU card. Are both the fans working on the RX580 card?

Yes my PSU is 700Ws and both fans work.

@iambehindongpus

If possible try the RX580 in another compatible spec PC to see if it works there but I think that the GPU card is faulty.

My esteemed colleague jayeff is probably correct but before giving up on the hardware try completely uninstalling the drivers using:

Display Drive Uninstaller (DDU)

I have found this app quite useful over the years - old and new GPU.

It is quite straightforward to use but do read the manual before use as sequence of actions is important.

Good luck.

Just another thought does the problem appear before the OS loadfs?

Did you buy it secondhand? As far as I know a lot of RX580s are used for mining(this link explains what mining is), which puts the GPU under constant stress and makes it degrade way faster than it's supposed to. The PSU should be fine because on my own RX590(firsthand) it would just crash the game and sometimes shut the computer off if it can't draw enough power. Uninstalling the drivers as @aactech suggested could work, but I think the card is just either too old or have some manufacturing issues from the start. You should consider getting a new card if you can; the RX580's way too old and would struggle a lot if you're running modern graphic-demanding games.

If you insist on fixing it, then you probably need to replace the VRAM, which is soldered on the graphic card and requires a lot of skills to swap successfully. Maybe a repair shop would know how to replace it?
