Windows 11 has an all-new user interface including a new taskbar, new centered icons, window transparency, rounded corners, and a refreshed Microsoft Store.

How to safely delete duplicate files on my computer?

Hi all,

While organizing my computer, I realized there are tons of duplicate files (photos, documents, downloads, etc.) cluttering my storage. Manually sorting through them feels risky because I’m afraid of accidentally deleting important files.

I’ve seen some tools online that scan and identify duplicates automatically. One example I came across was a "duplicate file finder" app (there are many like Duplicate Files Fixer, CCleaner, etc.).

My questions:

  • Are these types of tools generally safe to use?
  • Has anyone here used duplicate file finders successfully without causing system issues?
  • Any best practices to follow before running such tools?

Thanks for your help!

I used a third-party tool to identify duplicate files on my system. Manually finding them is quite difficult, so it's better to use dedicated software. However, make sure to back up your data before using any tool.
