Apple's mainstream 2021 iPhone was released on September 24th and comes with a 6.1" OLED display, a dual 12 MP camera system, and in five available colors. Successor to the iPhone 12.

Apple forbidding the use of non-original batteries

I visited a repair shop to replace my degraded battery, but neither DEJI nor FOXCONN brands worked, they stay in 1%. However, when they reinstalled the original one, it functioned normally. Could someone confirm if Apple is attempting to force us to use only original parts?

Andre, which phone do you have? There have been a lot of changes over the years, so depending on which model and what OS you're running the answer can be wildly different.

@dadibrokeit It is an iphone 13, ios 18.5. Do you have any idea why is it happening?

Hi Andre,

Starting with the iPhone XR, Apple started pairing the battery to the logic board. Replacing the battery with an unpaired one results in three effects. First, the ability to view the battery health information is disabled. Second, a pop-up warning message appears for a week or so warning you that the battery cannot be verified as a genuine Apple product (even if it is). Finally, your setup icon will show a badge and under the battery information you'll see another "genuine parts" warning.

Now, if you're using a genuine Apple battery, iOS 18 gives you something called the Repair Assistant that will let you pair the replacement battery to the phone, just as if Apple themselves had replaced it.

Those are the only effects I am aware of with regard to replacing a battery. Other than those mentioned, even aftermarket batteries charge and display their charge percentage correctly, so in actual operations nothing changes. There were some early issues with pairing where functionality was affected by replacement, but in those cases Apple fixed the issue in the next release of iOS. Given that you appear to be on the latest, that doesn't seem to be a likely cause.

So unless this is a new feature (or bug) in iOS, I am unaware of any reason for the problems you're seeing. Normally I would suggest trying a different brand of battery, but you've just tried two so I'm out of ideas. Perhaps revert your iOS to an earlier version and see if the problem is still there? Or

Alisha (@flannelist), have you heard of any new issues with regard to battery replacement?

Hi Jerry. I think I maybe found the cause. There are many reports of a bug with ios 26 that dont recognize the aftermarket battery. (I was wrong, the ios is 26 not 18). I will revert the ios as you suggested to test. Thank you!
