Concerning temperatures of my laptop

I have a HP 15 db1069au. The temperature of my laptop on starting remains around 50C, which is not concerning but, my laptop somehow manages to reach 76C on normal Twitter browsing and it reaches 85C on light gaming such as Roblox and Minecraft. Are these temps even okay? (Sidenote: I had purchased the laptop in 2020, and the fan was replaced in 2023 as it sounded like a jet engine and it displayed "Fan Error" on startup). My laptop does NOT give any warning about the temps but I have stopped using it since I'm concerned. The fan runs all the time but with little to no noise.

Hi @shrimohanyv

Check if the thermal paste on the CPU needs refreshing as it may have dried out and become less effective.

Presumably, when the fan was replaced, the condition of the thermal paste wasn't checked as it isn't necessary to remove the heat sink from the CPU when just replacing the fan.

Here's the maintenance and service guide, taken from this support webpage for the laptop.

Go to p.57 (67 of 105 pdf) in the guide to view the procedure to remove/replace the heat sink assembly.

Here's the ifixit How to Apply Thermal Paste guide that may also help.

Sorry for the late reply, but I had seen your comment earlier.

I am not confident about opening it up even though it is easy to do so. What should I do? I'm missing out on my regular entertainment dose and track recordings. Even though it was a very problematic laptop, I atleast had a PC to do something on.

It has been three months now. I'm planning to get a new one ASAP but I'm tight on cash.

@shrimohanyv

Everyone who has repaired a device has had to do it for the first time at some point.

It won't fix itself, so you may as well give it a try.

It's not that hard to do as long as you take your time and follow the procedure in the manual and the link as shown in the answer above.

Open the back plate on the laptop see if there are any dust or debris on the fans and heatsink fins if it does get a soft brush or an air compressed can and blow it away. Then remove the heat sink apply a fresh thermal paste then put everything back together
