What is wrong with my TV? (M50-E1)

Block Image

When I turn it on, all I see are a bunch of red lines, and if I wait, they get brighter and more become visible. None of the menus work. I should also mention that the screen has been too dark for ages.

I tired unplugging it, it didn't help. I can't even get to the menu to do a factory reset.

@samwilkins sounds like an issue with either the main board or the display panel itself. We will need to know your TV's exact model number. Next, unplug it and remove the back cover. Then do a visible inspection of the board. Check for any component that may look damaged, missing etc. Post some good pictures of your boards with your Question. That way we can see what you see and hopefully help you further. Also, tell us more about this "the screen has been too dark for ages." We will need to know if it was dark all over or just certain regions etc. The more details you can provide the better of an answer we can provide.

M50-E1 I think is the model number. It's 50 inches, so I'm not sure where the best place to open it up will be. On the couch is my best guess. I'm guessing the mounting bracket will need to be removed to open it.

As for it being dark, it's mostly been on the left side, thought I think more of the screen went dark lately. Has to be a problem with the backlight.

@samwilkins the couch could work but you may need a bit of time to fix your TV. Try a table somewhere off in the corner. That way you can still sit on the couch :-)

@oldturkey03 Ain't got a table I can use. I'd probably close it back up and put it off to the side somewhere once I look at the board and get those pictures, then open it back up once I get the replacement part if that's an option. Question would be where can I put it and how can I protect the screen from damage?

@samwilkins I usually use a couple of throw blankets on a table before placing the TV upside down on it. Luckily, it does not require a lot of force to remove the back cover or the boards.

@oldturkey03 The kitchen table would be too small, which is why I was thinking of working on the couch. I was thinking the best option when I'm not working would be to lean it against a wall somewhere. I was also thinking I might want something to protect the screen from scratches or other damage. I suppose anything soft will do, so maybe there's an old towel I can use.
