In June 2017 Apple updated its 13" MacBook Air with a newer Broadwell Intel Core i5 processor, resulting in slightly increased performance and battery life.

New battery issue. Prolonged charge time and abrupt shut down

I installed a new battery from iFixit (Serial Number: C01514329YEF90NA2). I followed all directions from the iFixit tutorial. Initially the computer seemed to work fine, but now it seems to take forever to charge and then seems to rapidly discharge when it is being used with simple applications. Also it has started to just shut down for no apparent reason. The shut down only occurs if on battery and does not occur if it is plugged in. Is there something I should do to "reset" the computer? Thank you

Update (06/04/25)

Is this is what you wanted? Plugged in and charging.

Thanks for your help.

!st off I would try to reset the SMC & PRAM, then run Apple Diagnostics with the charger connected (Power Up + "D" key until the prompts), then install CoconutBattery and add the screenshots to your question with any info provided from the diagnostics. Maybe some further info can be found in any system logs.

Reset SMC and PRAM. Apple Diagnostics came up with no issues. Problem - MacBook Pro Air 2017, just shuts off, even when actively using an application. Must start up from scratch. Also it seems that it takes longer to fully boot up. My next move was to purchase Malwarebytes and see if I have any virus issues. Make sense?

@bobi62689 - First off Malwarebytes is a great App, but won't help you here! We really need to see that screenshot of CoconutBattery main window while it's under charge. That is the direction I would go for your issue here. Just click on the Blue URL Link in Livfe's answer.
