Can you replace an american PS2's parts with japanese components?

I have a japanese PS2 that has some sort of gpu failure, and I recently found an american PS2 with a broken PSU and disk drive.

Since the PSU and the disk drive in the japanese PS2 work fine, I want to take those parts, and put them in the american one.

Is this an okay thing to do? Will the american PS2 work with the japanese parts?

The parts are interchangable, so yes you can, as long as the PS2 versions are indentical. Same type of drive (and laser) and same type of PSU, then it will fit and work. If it's different from each other (the PS2 versions as well as the components) then it won't fit/work.

Be aware that the PS2 is region locked. So you will only be able to play NTSC-M games. It's locked inside the firmware, so it's the motherboard that is locked.

Might have to adjust the brightness in the monitor or TV.

USA uses NTSC-M and Japan has NTSC-J.

Only minor difference but annoying if you're unaware of this and don't know what to do to fix it.
