OLED65B7 works fine. but makes clicking noises when turned off.

So I have a LG OLED65B7 here that still works fine for the most part, but has been making clicking noises (same sounding (mechanical) click as when you turn the TV on) since a few months when in standby/turned off. The clicking sounds do not have a pattern and are not always there either, and sometimes barely audible. Because I live in a apartment building I figured there might be some voltage irregularities and tried switching outlets and even hooked the TV up to a Brennenstuhl power brick with a HF filter, but that didn't change the issue.

Apart from this annoyance the TV turns on most of the time when prompted to either via remote or using my Nvidia shield remote that turns on multiple devices, though on some occasions the power on led will blink as if turning on but then turns off again. When trying it a second time it will turn on. Other than that, once it's on it will stay on until turned off again by me. So no issues there ..yet. That's why I want to try and fix this before it might get worse.

My best guess it has to do with a relais on the power side of things, also because the clicking sound is coming from the side where the power-board is located. But that's just me guessing. I opened up the backside to have a look at things but couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. Though honestly, I wouldn't know what to look for from there other than physical damage like blown fuses and bulging capacitors.

Anyone have this problem before? So far i've only seen people with clicking noises with TV's not working or turning off.

Edit:

Some pics and the relay that is making noise.

Hi @jeanmichel55815

Not sure if it's on your model's power board as searching online doesn't show boards for your specific model (you need to know the EAY number of the board - printed or ticketed on the board, to find it), rather it just shows power boards for LG OLED B7 models, but check if there's a 12V switching relay¹ on the board and if there is try replacing it. Might be designated as RL1 or RL101 on the board perhaps

¹ This is an example only. Check what the type number of the relay is on your board (if there is a similar relay) in case it is different and search online for the number, e.g. the type number of the relay in the example is G5RL-1A-LN specifications are 12V DC, 12A 250V AC

Hi Jay. Thanks for your response. I pinpointed the sound coming from the Omron relay you mentioned.

@samcanfixthis

Try replacing it and check if it fixes the problem.

Seems like it is the same one as I linked in my answer above

I could try at least. Soldering this one out and a new one in shouldn't be that difficult. Though It might be doing it's intended job at the moment, in a way, by cutting of due to a higher voltage coming through, as a protection, if you know what I mean. Perhaps due to a failing component elsewhere, or even on another board.

Could I decouple the PSU board from the other boards and plug it in and see if it still clicks without consequence? As a means of troubleshooting?

@samcanfixthis

if there was higher voltage coming in you would think that it would click when the TV was turned on as well as when it is turned off?

Don't know the circuit but it may not operate if the power board was isolated from the rest.

It could be that the main board might operate it when it receives the signal from the remote to turn the TV on i.e. full power is required from the power board and not just the standby power that allows for minimal functions on the mainboard i.e. standby power light and IR receiver circuit operation etc.

You could always try I suppose either nothing will happen or maybe it will still click and then you know the problem on the power board somewhere.

I've put some photo's up.

But yeah, I've tried to isolate the problem by disconnecting the PSU board from the other boards and it's still clicking away, so that should mean something is faulty on the PSU side of things.

I took the board out to check the backside, but I didn't see anything like burnmarks or anything, so I guess I'll just start by replacing the relay and see from there.

As a side note: LG has replaced PSU board like 4 years ago because this particular model was fit for a recall under warranty due to possible faulty components.
