Does the HP Stream 14-ax020nr have upgradable RAM?

I'm aware some HP 14 Stream models are able to have their RAM upgraded, but I couldn't find anything on the internet about the specific model I have (14-ax020nr). Is anybody aware of this? Thank you in advance!

I have to give HP kudos for making their Service and Maintenance Manuals available to the general public. It didn't take long to track down yours; here's where you can download a copy of it.

HP Stream Laptop PC 14 * Model numbers: 14-ax0XX Maintenance and Service GuideIMPORTANT! This document is intended for HP authorized service providers only.

Page 25 shows the procedure for replacing the memory module, which says that yes, indeed you should be able to upgrade your RAM.

However, it's not clear that's going to help; it depends on how much memory you have in it now. According to the specifications, there's 2GB built into the motherboard and the DIMM slot supports a maximum of another 4GB. So if you have 6GB already, that says you're maxed out. If your DIMM slot is empty then you can triple the amount of RAM in the system.

It might be worth your while to check through the user manual for any clue as to whether it will support more than 4GB; here's the support page where you can download all of the relevant documentation.

Hope that helps. Let us know how it all turns out for you; your experience could well help the next person who comes along with the same question!

Update (05/29/25)

It appears I spoke too soon. I remembered one time when I was looking to upgrade a MacBook that was very limited on the amount of RAM officially supported. When I went to a RAM supplier's website and used their locator, it turned out that although it was not officially supported, my laptop could indeed take about twice as much memory as Apple said it could.

So a similar thing happened on yours; I put in your model number to a search engine and guess what - it came up with a listing specifically for your model number selling a RAM stick that's twice the size HP says it takes!

A-Tech 8GB Module for HP Stream 14-ax020nr Compatible DDR3/DDR3L 1600MHz PC3-12800 Non-ECC SODIMM 1.35V - Single Laptop & Notebook Memory RAM Stick (ATMS397707A12351X1) at Amazon.com

You can either buy that one right there or use those specifications to search for more options, but you can at least be fairly confident the slot will take at least 8 GB, for a total of 10 GB in the system.

Thank you so much!! I'll check out the links you sent. Also, it says my system currently has 4GB of RAM so that means I'm thankfully not maxed out

@sally65403 A total of 4GB means you only have a 2GB DIMM stick installed, so even the "official" 4GB DIMM will bump you up by half again, and that one I linked to wasn't all that expensive, so yeah, if I were you I'd definitely be going up to 10GB in all. That should make a noticeable difference in performance.
