Why does my dishwashers top arm not spin?

The top arm of my dishwasher emits water but it does not spin. The bottom arm emits water and spins. I have cleaned the water holes and ensured nothing is impeding the arm from spinning. Any ideas on what the cause could be?

Hi @adamburges13981

Did you only clean the holes in the sprayarm?

Just asking as it is the pressure of the water i.e. the rate of flow, coming out of the holes that causes the arm to rotate.

If for instance the arm itself is clogged and not the holes per se, then the flow of water will be reduced.

Try removing the arm and then submerging it in a water/vinegar solution (3:1 ratio) for 3-4 hours (or overnight if you prefer) and then try flushing it into a tub and check if anything more comes out from the sprayarm holes.

If when flushing the water still only trickles out of the holes, the part number for the sprayarm is WPW10498900 if you decide to replace it. (examples only)

Hi @adamburges13981

Before you do that, here's the tech sheet for the dishwasher.

Run the service diagnostic tests with error codes as described on p.14 and check if error code F9 E1, F9 E2 or F9 E3 are being displayed.

If so there's a problem with the diverter- see p.21 for possible checks for each code.

If you find the problem and it is a faulty part that needs replacing here's a link that has the parts for all the models beginning with WDT750SAH

Select the link for your particular model and then locate the wanted part in the parts diagrams for the model. Click on the part to find the manufacturer's part number for the part and then search online for the part number only to find suppliers that suit you best.

If you search on YouTube for (insert wanted part number) replacement sometime if you're lucky there might be a video that shows how to remove/replace the part.

Thanks @jayeff. I did only clean the arm holes. I tried a vinegar solution for an hour but no luck. I wish there was a way to further confirm that the arm was the issue but I may go ahead and buy a new arm to rule it out as the culprit.

@jayeff thank you for this helpful info. I am seeing error codes 5-1 and 2-1. I do not see a code for 2-1 on the tech sheet you sent me. I don’t think either of these have to do with the top arm not spinning. Any thoughts on this?

@adamburges13981

Can't see how a door switch error code would cause it. Usually a faulty door switch stops the machine or doesn't even let it start

The unnamed error code is a concern as usually this indicates a control board problem.

Perhaps check if all the DC voltage values shown in the strip circuits for each component e.g. door switch 12V, diverter valve 3V etc are as specified.

@jayeff I pulled apart the circulation pump and it was full of gunk! Cleaning this out fixed my problem. Thanks again.
