Repair guides and disassembly information for the MacBook Pro 16'' released in November of 2019. Model A2141, EMC 3347.

Seeking video guide for top case (keyboard+battery) replacement (A214)

Hello! First time posting, so apologies if my forums etiquette isn't spot on yet.

The keyboard of my MacBook Pro 2019 16" (A2141) has been degrading over the past several months, with more and more keys becoming inconsistently registered upon keypress. That is: the keys are not physically sticky, but for several keys, they will register correctly ~60% of the time when pressed, but in the other 40% of cases will not register, and need to be hit again. I generally keep my electronics very clean, and I did also try cleaning some of the first keys this happened to manually (lifting out, cleaning the mechanism beneath, etc.), but it didn't seem to make a dent, and has been spreading to more keys over time despite no additional dirt and certainly no liquid damage.

At this point, I think I'd like to try replacing the keyboard. Due to the potential complications of that process, including rivet vs. screw issues, I think I'd prefer to simply replace the entire top case. I was planning to buy this (or a lower stock): MacBook Pro 16" (2019) Upper Case Assembly and Battery

However, I'm not especially "independent" when it comes to these repairs, and I haven't been able to find a guide to follow for top case (keyboard + battery included) removal/replacement for this model.

Would anyone be able to provide a guide/video either for the A2141 specifically, or a model that's sufficiently similar to the A2141 for top case keyboard/battery removal that the same (or almost exact same) steps could be applied?

Thank you very much, and please let me know if any more detail is needed!

EDIT: For example, is this video about 95% applicable to the A2141? If so, I think that would probably get me what I need to do the repair on my own. Thanks again!

@oldturkey03 + @livfe Amazing, thank you for both responses!! That PDF guide is extremely detailed about the location of removable screws/connections, and the video provides helpful context for some "practical" stuff the PDF guide omits (for example: I think removing the Wi-Fi component right near the hinge requires a tiny bit of finesse). I'll do my best to be careful but I feel pretty confident that this repair is within reach for me with these two combined. Thanks again! 🙏🙏

@adagauss Yes the WiFi connections are the tricky part, I am not so familiar with its position and connection but I tend to remove the card with the connectors still in place as they can deform when trying to clip them back on. You'll work it out no doubt :)

@adagauss best of luck to you and keep us informed about how it went. You got this!!!!

@livfe & @oldturkey03 -- thanks again for the additional advice and encouragement! Due to shipping and travel it might be ~2 - 3 weeks before I can get the parts and have time to spend on this, but I'll update once I'm done for sure. Thanks!!

This video may help A2141 Keyboard Replacement (REMEMBER to either work with the display over the side of the table or COVER the screen to avoid any accidental scratches) as there is no ifixit guide as yet. Similar process involved with a guide I made but it is for an older model MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 keyboard Replacement. Battery removal process I guess is also a similar process to what is found on other guides but take care as there are likely some different connection layouts. Take your time & Good Luck!
