Sony KD-55XE9005 no picture after motherboard replacement

I have a SONY KD-55XE9005 55" that had the following symptoms:

  • stuck in a reboot loop, where for almost one hour it would not get past the spinning logo
  • next day it powered up fine and it seemed ok, but after an hour or so it suddenly switched off, and it appeared completely dead - not even the bottom indicator light coming on

I have ordered a replacement motherboard and replaced it, and put in a USB stick with the latest firmware, after which I have the following:

  • bottom indicator light flashing amber and green
  • no picture, not even the backlight turning on
  • main menu music playing in a loop - or at least I think that's what it is, because I did not have that before, so I assume it's the new firmware

The initial symptoms indicate it was only the motherboard, but now it appears it could be a TCON as well, or some connection to the LED backlight driver is not right (but have checked multiple times, see no issue there). Any ideas what to do next?

@nikspr what version firmware did you use?

I did v6.7220, which should be the latest for this TV. I did it because I was getting no picture on just replacing the motherboard, so thought the reason was that it had no firmware or the wrong one. I had no music though, that only happened after the new firmware.
