Repair guides and disassembly information for the 16-inch MacBook Pro released in November of 2023, featuring M3 Pro and M3 Max SoCs.

Device will not power on after usb c replacement

Orange jouce was spilled on my MacBook pro M3. After a few days the usb c started to not work. I removed the back cover revealing some corrosion on the main board. (Device was working just fine other than usb c). I removed the main board, cleaned with rubbing alcohol and a new toothbrush. It cleaned up really well. I let dry for 18 hours and re assembeled everything. Now it will not power on unfortunately.

I tried charging it, no light or any sign of life. Holding the power button while plugged in.

I even took the back off and re connected the battery and screen. Still nothing.

Please help! I have no apple store in my country and need to fix this!

Thanks

Good to state exactly where the juice was spilled on the keyboard / logic board and the country you are located in, It is likely there will be a shorted circuit and some board level surgery required & or a defective keyboard power button if the spill was on that location.

Juice was spilled on the side of the laptop. By the mag safe and 2 usb c ports. None got on the top of the machine

Over the years Apple has moved to smaller and smaller discrete components as such using a toothbrush might be a bit too aggressive, pulling or damaging one or two. Orange Juice is both quite sugary and acidic, so if left on the logic board too long it can cause damage.

You stated it was still working before you took it apart so that leads me to believe the logic board was already in a fragile state.

Can you give us a clue where you live, country and nearest major city maybe we can aim you to someone who can help you.

I found a company that can repair m3 logic boards in Bangkok. I am going to ship to them today. Thanks for the help! I'll keep you posted with what happens

Had a service shop in Bangkok look at it and they found 2 bad pieces on the logic board. Replaced them and it works now.

Also the USB c connectors I bought from ifix it are for the wrong model so I had the same shop order proper parts from another supplier.

Thanks for all the help

What You Can Try-

Sometimes a dead battery can block power-up.

Disconnect battery completely.

Plug in charger with just the logic board and screen connected.

Wait a few minutes and try pressing the power button.

Observe any heat, buzzing, clicks, or even a warm spot on the board — this could point to a short.

Inspect Key Components Again

Use a magnifying glass or macro phone camera to inspect:

  • USB-C port area (likely U7000 or similar chip for charging)
  • Capacitors near the charging IC
  • Any signs of pitting or green corrosion around chips or between pads

If you find even a tiny corroded component, take a close-up photo and identify it.

If nothing goes well, try to find a micro-soldering technician.

Sure!

Your MacBook likely has deeper damage from the orange juice, even though you cleaned it. The USB-C issue suggests the charging circuit or logic board may be damaged. Try a different charger, and check if power reaches the board (if you have a multimeter).

If it's still dead, it likely needs board-level repair or microsoldering. A local repair shop (not necessarily Apple) that handles MacBooks is your best option.
