Starter cord hard to pull

My starter cord is hard to pull. The recoil is fine and I can turn the blade by hand but pulling the cord is difficult. Any suggestions?

Hi Tony, I am not sure what you mean but I usually engage the brake handle to start the mower. I have tried it with and without engaging the brake, same issue.

Remove the spark plug and try it. Also see if any petrol gets forced out of the plug hole. Sometimes if the mower has been on its side petrol can leak into the head through the carb.

@cherylmaloof If you don't feel that there is any difference between brake on and off, then I might suggest that the cable has come loose where the cable ends at the motor.
