The PS3 Slim doesn't get the 'YLOD' as it's motherboard doesn't have the faulty chips that the PS3 Fat had. What you may have is a faulty hard drive though. follow the steps in the video to get into safe mode and make a selection from the menu.

*Warning - You will most likely lose any data on your hard drive before the system runs properly again.

The PS3 Slim do have YLOD for sure. But there ain't a yellow light/led anymore. The issue he describes means that there is a problem with the APU.

So, a reflow can be tried, but is most of the time temporary. The great fix is reballing, but this is very difficult to do and you do need the tools to get it fixed.

By 2010 (when the Slim was introduced), Sony was using new 45 nm chips that solved the YLOD. Please watch this video to understand why the YLOD occurred. https://youtu.be/I0UMG3iVYZI?list=PL5EZD...

Oh no, the dreaded Yellow Light of Death (YLOD) on your PS3 Slim! That's definitely a frustrating issue. Based on your description ("My ps3 slim turns on for a few seconds and then makes 3 beeps and turns off."), it does sound like YLOD.

Unfortunately, YLOD usually indicates a significant hardware problem, often related to the GPU or CPU losing connection with the motherboard due to issues like solder cracking from heat stress over time.

Generally, there isn't a simple, guaranteed fix that you can do at home. Many of the DIY "fixes" you might find online (like using a heat gun or reflowing the solder in an oven) are often temporary at best and can even cause further damage if not done correctly.

However, here are a few things you could consider:

  • Check the power supply: While less likely with the symptoms you described, a faulty power supply could potentially cause similar behavior. Ensure the power cable is securely connected at both ends and try a different power outlet if possible.
  • Professional repair services: Your best bet for a lasting solution is usually to seek out a professional console repair service. They have specialized equipment and expertise to diagnose the exact issue and perform more complex repairs like reballing the GPU/CPU. Look for reputable services with good reviews.
  • Consider a replacement: Depending on the cost of repair and the age of your console, it might be more economical to consider purchasing a used or refurbished PS3 Slim or even upgrading to a newer PlayStation console.

Things to be cautious of:

  • DIY "fixes" involving excessive heat: As mentioned earlier, these are risky and often don't address the underlying problem.
  • Unreputable repair services: Do your research and choose a service with a good track record.

I know this isn't the news you were hoping for, but I wanted to give you an honest assessment of the situation. Let me know if you have any other questions!
