Released April 14, 2022 It's got a large Super AMOLED panel that refreshes at 120Hz

Is a Galaxy S7+ display suitable for replacement?

I have a broken Tab S8+ display and can't find any replacement display for less than 330 EUR. I can however find Tab S7+ tablets for way less and having the same specifications, it would seem that the displays would be interchangable, but I cannot find the answer on the internet

Hi @whitenight75127

The two displays are not interchangeable.

Searching online for GH82-27887A finds a few suppliers offering the display for under the price you mentioned.

FYI the Samsung part number for an S7+ display is GH82-23864A GH96-13990A GH82-23407A

That's a smart idea to consider the Galaxy Tab S7+ display as a potential replacement for your broken Tab S8+ screen, especially given the cost difference you've found. However, while they might seem similar on the surface, it's highly unlikely that the displays are directly interchangeable.

Here's why:

  • Different Models, Different Components: Even within the same product line, manufacturers often make subtle but crucial changes between models. The display assembly includes not just the screen itself but also the digitizer (for touch input), and the connecting flex cables and their pin configurations on the motherboard. These can vary significantly between the Tab S7+ and Tab S8+.
  • Size Variations: While both are premium tablets, there might be slight differences in the exact dimensions of the display panel and the surrounding bezel. This could lead to fitment issues within the Tab S8+ chassis.
  • Software and Calibration: The display drivers and color calibration settings within the tablet's software are specifically designed for the original panel. Using a different panel might result in issues with touch responsiveness, color accuracy, brightness levels, and even overall system stability.
  • Refresh Rate: The Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ boasts a 120Hz refresh rate. While the Tab S7+ also has a high refresh rate, it's crucial to confirm if it's the exact same specification and if the Tab S8+ system would properly support the S7+ panel's refresh characteristics.
  • Connector Compatibility: The flex cables that connect the display to the motherboard are likely to have different connectors or pin layouts between the two models. Forcing incompatible connectors can cause irreversible damage to both the display and the tablet's mainboard.

Your best course of action would be to specifically search for a replacement display panel designed for the Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+ (SM-X800, SM-X806, or SM-X808 depending on your exact model).

Here are some avenues to explore:

  • Specialized Tablet Repair Websites: Look for online retailers that specialize in selling replacement parts for tablets and smartphones. They usually list compatible models for each component.
  • eBay and Other Marketplaces: You might find listings for genuine or third-party Tab S8+ replacement screens on these platforms. However, exercise caution and ensure the seller has a good reputation.
  • Local Repair Shops: Contact local mobile and tablet repair shops. They might be able to source a Tab S8+ screen for you or offer repair services.

While the price difference for the Tab S7+ display is tempting, attempting to use an incompatible screen could lead to further damage to your Tab S8+ and ultimately cost you more. It's generally worth the investment to get the correct replacement part for your specific device.

Good luck with your search! Let me know if you have any other questions.
