Slightly bent over by putting inside my backpack

My friend told me that iPad will bent over when putting inside the backpack and crushing by other items. I checked mine and I realized it starts to bent. Although all the parts are working, I hope to ask any solution for it.

It's a crapshoot as to whether you'll be better off trying to repair your iPad or just leave it as is.

The main thing you have to consider is that in order to straighten the frame, you will need to remove the screen, or you run a very high risk of cracking the screen as you try to bend the frame back into shape. Now you have to consider that with the frame bent, the screen will already be under a small amount of stress, and it's entirely possible that you can stress it far enough that it will break in the process of removing it.

On the other hand, the fact that it is under constant stress due to the bent frame could also mean that sooner or later it may spontaneously crack as a result of that stress, especially if it encounters any more stress when being carried around in a backpack.

So there's really not a good solid answer one way or the other, as both options have advantages and risks associated with them.

My daughter-in-law came to me with a bent iPad that she was given and hoping I could fix for her, but in her case the screen was also cracked, so it made my decision about straightening the case a simple one. I removed the broken screen and once it was off I could evaluate whether I would need to replace the housing or just straighten it. Fortunately I was able to carefully bend it back into the correct shape, verifying it with a metal straight edge in all dimensions. I had, however, already done my homework in locating a replacement frame in case I determined the original was too damaged to fix.

So there are your considerations. If the bend is fairly minor you will have a better chance of being able to remove the screen without risk of breaking it, but then again if it's minor you might think about just leaving it as is. The more severe the bend the greater chance it could break when being removed, but then again it also means there's a greater chance of it cracking by itself in the future.

Good luck with your repair; be sure to come on back and let us know what you decide and how it all turns out! Your decision and the things that you factor into it could well help the next person who comes along with the same issue.

Update (05/05/25)

Rereading my answer today, I remembered another little factoid that may be something you'd want to take into consideration. If you're not aware of it, Apple itself does not repair iPads. If you take an iPad into them for repair, the best they will do is offer you a replacement under warranty, or a discount on buying a replacement, but under no circumstances will they open one up and fix anything inside.

Now, there could be any number of reasons for their policy of non-repair, but my guess is that their success rate for removing screens is probably lower than they deem acceptable. So if you take an iPad in for a battery replacement, it won't make economic sense for them to also replace a screen that they break when trying to get into the case to replace the battery. That's just my own personal theory, so don't go attributing that explanation to Apple; I do not have any information on their official reason for that policy.
