Create a battery report to check the condition of the battery.
When you have the report, compare the Design Capacity value versus the Full Charge Capacity value as shown by the report. For a good battery they should nearly be the same value.
You can work out the condition of the battery as a percentage by using the formula Full Charge Capacity value x 100 ÷ Design Capacity value. If it is <35% consider replacing the battery.
If the battery needs replacing, here's the maintenance and service guide for the laptop that will help. Go to p.29 (37 of 88 pdf) to view the procedure to remove/replace the battery.
At the top of p.29 you will find the HP part numbers for the 2 battery models that can be used. Usually the part number is found on the battery somewhere if you wish to confirm which one you have now. Search online for the applicable part number only, to find battery suppliers that suit you best.
Once you have replaced the battery, remember to dispose of the old battery responsibly. The environment will thank you for doing this.
