Washer Not Draining After Replacing Pump – Need Help (GFW850SPN5RS)

Hi everyone,

I recently replaced the drain pump on my GE GFW850SPN5RS washing machine, but unfortunately, it’s still not draining.

I’m getting the following error codes: 18, 38, 32, 19, and 26.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? What else should I check or consider replacing?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hi @markfragola

Here's the service manual for the washer that may help.

The fault codes posted by you seem to indicate a problem with multiple components e.g. drain pump (even though you've replaced it), pressure sensor, water inlet valves, lid lock etc.

Maybe start on p.74 (p.75 of 83 pdf) of the manual and follow the checks for a fault code 18.

If you find the problem and it is a faulty part that needs replacing, here's a parts list that is useful. Locate the wanted part in the list and note the part number for the part that is shown with it. Search online for the part number only, to find suppliers that suit you best.

Thank you for the feedback.

I replaced the drain pump with a part from Amazon, but the issue is still occurring.

How can I confirm if the pump itself is bad? I understand the obvious signs — like it not working — but I’m not sure if the pump is the root cause or if something else is going on.

I’ve already checked all the hoses, ensured there are no blockages, and reassembled everything properly, but I’m still getting error codes: 18, 38, 32, and 26.

Do you have any other suggestions, @Jayeff?

@markfragola

You would need a DMM (digital multimeter) and use it to check if the pump motor winding is OK and also if the 120V AC operating voltage is there when it needs to be.

See p.59 (p.60 of 83 pdf) of the manual linked above.

Just replaced the drain pump with another (just to see if the prior new pump was the issue) and this didn’t fix the problem.

All wires are secure, nothing is loose and still the drain doesn’t activate.

Any other things I can check?

@jayeff - really appreciate your help so far.

@markfragola

Did you check if 120V AC is being supplied to the drain motor when required,you never said if it was or not?

I’m sorry - I didn’t check that and I already assembled it all.

Can I check it from above (main board) vs disassembling everything again?
