Released in North America in November 2006, the Wii was Nintendo's first home console to directly support Internet connectivity, supporting both online games and digital distribution of games and media applications through the Wii Shop Channel.

Nintendo Wii Switched off And Started Popping After Hours of Gameplay

i had been playing Mario Kart Wii, when i switched to a different channel on my tv by mistake, but as i went to change it i heard the disc drive or fan slow down to a halt, i look over to the Wii and the power light was off. then it started popping. i was able to plug it in after 15-ish minutes for a short moment to get mario kart out of it. i havent plugged it in so far, did it overheat? thanks in advance to all of your help :)

Hi!

It can be multiple things.

The two most likely issues:

First thing: Overheated.

Second thing: Power supply is bad.

To solve the power supply, please replace this one first and see how it goes. It's way easier to just replace this one and see if it works or not.

To solve the overheating, you need to open up the Wii and remove all dust, also clean the fan thoroughly. After this is done, you can replace the thermal pads under the heatsink. Little note: Usually you don't need to replace it, but if you are having issues, it is recommended to replace it.

Popping as sound? From the Wii or power supply it self? Or popping from the sound from the TV?

@dan0 as far as i know, it wasnt the tv since it was tuned into the wrong channel, my wii and its power supply are on a near shelf, so it was either the wii or the psu, the wii did turn back on btw.

Okay, could be overheated or power supply issues. Would try a new PSU first :)! Way easier to replace and test.
