Missing capacitor, and boardview doesn't help

So I have this 820-00928-A board (A1707 - 2017) with a missing capacitor, just under the right speaker connector. The problem is, all brd's I've found show this area exactly like the 820-00281. Too bad they're different!

The first picture shows what can be seen on the brd file, both 00281 and 00928.

Picture two shows the actual 820-00928 area I'm interested in

Picture three shows the same area with the blown component.

Can anyone please tell me the values of the blown capacitor, so I can look for the same part on a different board and replace it?

Thank you in advance for any help.

EDIT - I guess it should be 22UF - 20% - 10V - X5R-CERM - 0603-1, as per components C9310, C9311, C9312 and C9313. Four identical components, same size even though the positioning is different. Can anyone confirm?

@mafomo that's what I show. Go for it. Order a couple and replace it. Let us know how it works out.

@oldturkey03 and @danj I made an appointment with a guy who has better equipment and a donor board for next Tue. I will report the result.

Sorry for the delay but we’ve had a bunch of holidays here. However: the missing component was not the cause of the problem. As it’s been explained to me, that capacitor had a mere “filter function”, so theoretically it would have worked even without it.

The issue was the half-dead SMC chip. Once replaced, the machine behaved as it should.

Thank you all for the kind help

Often times I need to jump to the schematics to get these odd ones. Here I trace the pad/s to other components to then locate these on the schematic checking both sides as needed.

But before you replace this cap try to understand the logic as it’s possible something triggered this to fail. If you don’t have the schematics jump t badcaps.net and search the board #

Thank you Dan. Much appreciated. From what I see on the microscope, I bet my a** that the component didn’t really blow up. It was still inside the chassis. I believe someone tried to disconnect the speaker with a finger nail or something and detached it by force. However I’ll check as per your advice. Still the question remains about the values of the component. Since all brd files show a different positioning of the components in that area, how can I be sure to spot the correct component and its values, missing the code?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@mafomo - The schematic will give you the value of the component. I prefer referencing them over the board view.

Remember the board view drawings are mostly created from a scanned logic board by 3rd parties as the Apple ones rarely make it out with the newer models. Even still, you need to make sure the schematic is the final version as early versions maybe incomplete.

If it is actually a 22µF, then it is a electrolylic capacitor and then polarity matters.

Ceramic capacitors are common in this small 0603 package size and are not polarity sensitive. Only tantalum and electrolytic capacitors (which are always larger) are polarity sensitive.

@chrisgreen and @thomax5265 thank you guys but that is not a problem since I have an identical board and can see the polarity, so I’m sure it will be soldered the right way
