Headlights will turn on with auto setting on headlights switch but will not turn off

Auto headlights usually have a timer. After you shut the car off and exited, you can use the key fob to lock the car twice and that should override the timer; this will usually also beep or activate the horn briefly. On some vehicles, you can go into your settings and adjust the timer

Hi @markduane
Check that the headlight light sensor, located on the passenger side of the dashboard (see image) is not covered or dirty, preventing it from detecting when it is light enough not to have the headlights on.

Ahh, I thought you mean when the car shuts off. Do you have anything covering the sunlight sensor on the dash? If not, check into that sensor.
