Danby refrigerator dar107a2wdd help

I have Danby refrigerator dar107a2wdd that won't get cold its cold in the morning but Immediately the temp changes upon opening the fridge. I vacuumed the back and bottom I have a lot of ice build up around the coil this model is a fridge only no freezer. I thought It might be the thermostat but this model looks like the thermostat wire is Incased within the spray foam insulation only the white tip is accessible. and not replaceable with out cutting the tip off and splicing on a new one. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

Thank you

Hi @damonfarenick

The thermostat "wire" is a capillary tube that extends the temperature back to the thermostat¹.

You don't replace the tube you remove it and the thermostat and then feed the new thermostat tube back through the same path as the one you just removed.

The thermostat would control when the compressor needs to be turned off and on to maintain the temps and not let the compressor run too long which would mean it gets too cold and maybe that's why ice is building up on the evap unit. Also looking at the parts list there's no defrost heater or timer which would aid in preventing the ice build up on the evap unit

Here's a video that in general shows how to replace a thermostat with a capillary tube.

¹ I realize that the thermostat linked is not for your exact model, but for some reason I've been blocked access to a parts list for your model but I think that it is the same one, the only difference is that you're refrigerator is white and the model I linked the part from is black, so I'm hoping it's the same part number. You may have better luck in accessing the site than I did.

If you find the part for your model (maybe look on the thermostat in your refrigerator itself), search online for Danby (insert part number) to find suppliers that suit you best.

Hi thanks for the reply. My temp is a digital system. There is no dial. And there's no way to feed the new wire through the foam insulation it's firmly incased. Is there a way I can send you a picture?

@damonfarenick

You may have to check what the control board end of the capillary tube connects to and then see if the tube is fed through another feeder tube that perhaps you can't see at the other end.

Could you access the parts list I linked (that I can't access) to see what the thermostat (or control board) looked like in your model?

Here's how to add an image to your question in ifixit Adding images to an existing question

I was able to access it. Thank you. The parts don't look the same. I was able to get the model of co.puter board. I assume I have to change the whole board. To fix the thermostat?

@damonfarenick

If that's where the capillary tube connects to then yes the board will have to be replaced.

At least you shouldn't have to replace the tube unless an image of the control board (if not shown in parts list, search online for the part number) shows that it is part of the board and not that it just plugs into it.

If it does plug into the board maybe check that it is inserted fully and not that it has come out fractionally or entirely.

Thanks. It's kinds hard to tell. The capillary tube wire appears to be going up and the only item up would be the control board. The wires that plug into the board don't look like the same ones as the capillary wire but it may connect to another set of wires before getting to the board. I think the replacement board is 70 bucks worth a shot hopefully it works but in the meantime I will try to find a wiring diagram for this fridge to better diagnose it. I really appreciate the help.
