Apple's fourth-generation smartwatch, with optional cellular connectivity, released September 21, 2018.

Can't open watch

I have a Series 4 40mm SS.

I bought the iFixit kit to replace the battery. However I can not get under the screen to lift it using the scalpel. I've applied the iOpener heat mat several times, to the point the watch is too hot to handle. I just can't get enough purchase. I've tried lightly, with force, and all along the edges. Advice would be appreciated.

I created a wood block to hold the watch as it’s just safer. The trick is to aim the knife curved edge downward between the case and crystal parting the two from each other, then once I’ve gotten the knife edge into the space I twist it in a prying action under the crystal. You do need to keep the pressure on the knife.

Use a small suction cup if you have one to lift up the display similar to phone repair

Force the blade under the screen (carefully of course)

I had to buy Dorco (razor) blades to get a thin enough edge to get between the case and screen.
