Information and repair guides for dehumidifier repair, an appliance that removes humidity from the air in your home.

Why is my dehumidifier not working?

I have an off-brand dehumidifier that stopped working. The power wouldn't turn on, and the screen wouldn't light up. I took it apart and found a couple of small capacitors burned up. I replaced them and the screen has power again. I go to turn the unit on and it's like it goes to power up the compressor and shuts off saying "EF." The water bin is completely empty, and the float is definitely not stuck. I have no idea what else to check. I notice that the fan for it at no point comes on and I'm not sure how to check it. It has 4 wires and is def a brushless fan motor. It seems like the fan is not turning on which is causing the compressor to shut down but I'm just guessing. Any ideas would be helpful as I've already searched for info and didn't find anything.

Hi @english60530

What is the make and model number of the dehumidifier?

Brand: Aiusevo

Model: AS280

Check if the water tank level sensor is electrically OK.

I can't find a parts list for the model but presumably it is a float switch of some kind so it will either test short circuit when it is operated or open circuit when it is operated.

If may be easier to test it from where it connects to the control board, but maybe not i.e. if it is connected by a cable, disconnect the cable from the control board and use the Ohmmeter function of a DMM (digital multimeter) connected to the cable from the water level switch to test the operation of the switch when it is manually operated and released.

If the switch is faulty, hopefully there's some model/part identification information on the switch itself, making it easier to find a replacement.

Do this with the power disconnected from the dehumidifier.

I tested the operation of the float sensor and have 0 ohms when the water tank is empty, and with the float switch pressed up I get 0.5 ohms. So that part surprisingly seems like it's working then. Anything else that I can check?

@english60530

0.5 Ohms is nearly the same as short circuit i.e. 0.00 Ohms so it seems that the switch is not OK.

I don't think that the control board would be able to differentiate a value of 0.5 Ohms between on and off. It's not definite enough

I assume you tested the switch in isolation i.e. disconnected from everything?

Are there any markings at all on the switch itself to identify it?

If there are you may be able to find the datasheet for it to find out what type of switch it is and also if there are any replacements available.

The manufacturer offers no support past the warranty period and most probably (I'm not sure) that they would just replace the humidifier if there was a problem with it during this time. as they don't have any spare parts available for it

I completely disconnected the switch when I tested it. Then I held it up against the tank float to see if the numbers changed and they did. I can't find the sensor part based off the numbers that are on it. I'm trying to post a picture. It reads:

RS-23

EL 2229

@english60530

What Ohms measurement scale was the DMM set to?

If it was on the 200 Ohms scale setting then 0.5 =0.5 Ohms

If it was x2K or x20k Ohms scale setting then 0.5 = 500 Ohms

Sorry my response took a while. Thank you for the info on updating pictures. I was able to update with photos up above on the original post of the equipment I took my measurements with the readings I got. When the water bucket is near the reading's kind jump around a little but end up around 0.6-0.5, I can't find that electrical part at all though.
