Apple's top-of-the-line flagship for 2022. Released September 16th, the iPhone 14 Pro Max sports a 6.7" ProMotion OLED, the new Bionic A16 chip, a triple rear camera system, and 5G connectivity. Successor to the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Replaced battery - screen completely stopped working

Had someone I thought I could trust fix the broken glass on the back, he didn't have the right model and only noticed until the very end. While we waited for the right one to be delivered, he admitted to piercing the battery and that it should be replaced.

Next day, the phone would shut off every once in a while, but would work fine after a charge (battery would just die randomly)
Went to charge it as normal, apple logo would come on and then it would shut off and it would repeat that cycle. I decided to disconnect the phone and not charge it or attempt to turn it on until the battery was replaced.

Battery was replaced (not by the same person)

When we went to turn on the phone, you just get a messed-up screen, bunch of lines and colors, nothing is legible. Everything is connected properly.

Going to buy a screen replacement now but wanted some insight. When we removed the battery, it was completely beat up, looked like someone shot at it. Could the bad battery had messed up something in the display? Am I completely fried?

Thanks for reading!

Yeah, sounds like the battery might have swollen and bent the screen. Happened on my 13 Pro a few days ago—luckily, it didn't damage my screen, but it definitely can. A damaged battery like the one you described could have put pressure on the display, causing internal damage, especially if it was punctured and heating up.

Replacing the screen is a good next step since you're already seeing display issues. If that doesn't fix it, there could be damage to the connectors or even the logic board from the previous issues. When you install the new screen, check the connectors carefully for any signs of burn marks or bent pins. Hopefully, it's just the screen that needs replacing!

Sounds like a damaged screen cable

Did the same to my watch, peeled off the flex cable from the back of the screen to wiggle it out, and it caused the whole screen to be blue pink yellow red lines
