Why is my WD65736 TV shut down after a few minutes?

I have a WD65736 tv that works for a few minutes then shuts down. Red light remains. Replaced lamp and new lamp will not light. Reinstall old lamp and tv comes on and works just fine for a few minutes and again shuts down. Tried 3 new lamps and none worked. Lamp supplier suggested that I have a ballast issue so replaced the ballast. Tv worked just fine using the old lamp 1 evening then the next morning shut down almost immediately. Got another new ballast and nothing. The tv will still work for a few minutes using my original lamp and ballast thus far none of the 3 lamps would light and neither of the 2 ballasts works at all. What's my next step?

Hi @tsg55851

Is the fan working OK in the TV?

Try removing the back and using a portable fan to blow air through and check if it stays on.

It may be a heat issue causing it to shut down.

Thanks for your reply jayeff...yes i've tried cooling the back of the tv with an external fan. I should have mentioned that in my original question. I've cleaned and checked that all fans were working also cleaned any heat sinks that I could get to. All of this resulted in no change. Can you tell me where the thermal sensor is located? l've tried to find and thus far have failed. Thanks TSG

I had similar issues with my JVC smart TV, this worked for me,

1. Update the data on the TV

2. Take the back cover off the TV and using a keyboard duster or a tiny vacuum cleaner and clean all the dust that's settled on the chipboard, fans and heatsinks your TV should work without issues

Hi @tsg55851

Here's the service manual that may help.

The location of the thermal sensor is shown in Fig.3 on p.12.

Perhaps, before doing anything with the thermal sensor, it may be better to see if performing the Error Code Operational Check as shown on p.24 shows anything first.

Error codes indicated I had a bad lamp. I've already tried 3 new lamps and none work. I did notice that the small glass window that rests between the lamp and the color wheel is shattered. Don't know if that's causing tv to shut down, but will try to find a replacement window glass.

@tsg55851

Use the schematics in the manual to find if the lamp is getting any power.

All the new lamps may not work due to no power because the old lamp may have damaged the power supply circuit that is used for it.

See p.54 tofind the connections to the lamp and then find them on the schematic at the end of the manual

My old lamp and old ballast still works for about 5 to 10 minutes before shut down. I've tried 3 new lamps and 2 different new ballast and no combination works. I can put old lamp and old ballast back in and again tv runs for about 5 to 10 minutes then shuts down, so it must be getting power.

@tsg55851

OK

Maybe the broken glass window is the problem as it may be allowing too much heat from the lamp to pass through to the colour wheel area.

Hi Jayeff...my thoughts exactly. Trying to find a source for the glass window and hope that that will fix the problem. Thanks for input.
