Synology DS 1815+ will not power on

Hi Synology DS 1815+ will not power on and it is out of warranty.

I have seen online that a soldering a transistor and/or failing that replacing the psu would fix it.

Can anyone share a guide on steps to soldering the transistor as well as replacing the psu, and details where a compatible transistor and psu can be purchased?

Thanks in advance, any help would be appreciated.

I just did this exact fix on the DS1815+. Same problem, wouldn't turn on. To fix it, there is a transistor near the power connector (BC847C (SOT-23)) in spot Q4. It's really, really small! I tested it with a multimeter on diode mode

I tried replacing it with a soldering iron, but it's just not up to the job (unless your a magician with a soldering iron...I'm definitely not!). I switched to my ATTEN ST-862D hot air soldering station set on 400F and 7% air flow and the smallest nozzle. The chip came after a brief minute. Replaced the chip, reassembled the NAS, and it's been running fine since.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, this module is susceptible to a design flaw within its CPU that is likely to eventually render it inoperable. There is a temporary fix that involves soldering a 100ohm resistor to the motherboard, but that will not permanently fix the problem, just buy you more time. I would recommend pulling your drives before attempting a fix, and using a new drive for initial testing after any attempted repair.

Alternatively, your original drives / storage volumes should work with no issues if installed in another newer Synology product, which you may want to start saving for even if you're able to temporarily revive the DS1815+ via the resistor fix.
