MacBook Turns Off After 25+ Minutes of Use

Hi everyone,

I have a MacBook that turns off after more than 25 minutes of use (every time). Here’s what I’ve tried so far:

  • Disconnected the battery and ran it on the charger – still turns off.
  • Cleaned the fan to ensure proper cooling.

What else should I check? Could this be a thermal issue, a logic board problem, or something else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Given the systems age you may need a new battery. Let’s check things using this great App Coconut Battery with the charger plugged in take a snapshot of the Apps main window and post it here so we can check things out.

@ca2baco I had this happen also on a 2017 MBA, and we came to the conclusion that the CPU was fractured causing very slow performance, random safe boot modes, and shutdowns. Long shot but try running a Geekbench, the results should be around the 900 mark for normal performance. It might also be a SMC issue, dry joint or a failing SMC chip. Always good to make a fresh thermal paste.

Hi, I used CMD + D for to use the Apple Diagnostics utility and it did not shows me an error. After that I was able to install Macs Fan Control and notice that after running a youtube 4K video the CPU Core went to 104C which is too high, I did set up the fan on 6000 RPM and went down to 68C, but at the end it went off after 28 minutes of use.

I don't think it is the battery because this random shut off happens even when the battery is not connected.

so may be I should install a new thermal paste?
