Replace battery in partially lifted screen iPhone

My SE, 1st gen has partially lifted screen do to bulging battery. I had the phone inside an Otter case, which is an extremely stout case. When an AT&T tech opened the case to install a new SIM the screen partially opened exposing the swollen battery. The Otter case itself was keeping the evidence of the swollen battery concealed. The battery takes and holds a charge but to troubleshoot bizarre SMS behavior is what caused me to visit the AT&T store. The screen is now lifted 1/4" on left side and intact on right side. My question after viewing the disassembly videos, should I modify the screen release and lifting procedures in any manner? The SE is a great phone but Apple no longer offers battery service for it, although it still supports 2nd gen SE's.

Whether you have to modify the screen removal procedure depends on whether the screen's mounting frame is still securely attached to the screen, or if the battery has separated the frame from the screen instead of the phones midframe like it's supposed to. Take a look in the gap to see if the mounting rails are visible, something like what you see in this picture.

If you can see them then you should be okay; that would mean the frame is still where it should be. If not, then the frame has probably started separating from the LCD itself. If that happens you'll want to remove the Pentalobe screws then when it comes time to create an opening for your pick you'll want to focus on the side opposite the gap in hopes you'll get between the screen frame and the phone. It's not a problem we usually see on the older phones, but newer ones it seems to be happening much more commonly that the frame comes off the screen so hopefully that's not what happened to you.

Good luck; let us know how it all works out!
