MacBook Air shuts down when unplugged after battery replacement

I recently did a battery replacement on my 2018 Macbook Air. The macbook won't start unless I have the charger plugged in and when it does start the fan is very loud and the machine runs EXTREMELY slow, to the point where it takes minutes to open an application. Additionally, the keyboard no longer works, so I have to login to a guest account.

Your system is running in CPU Safe mode. This is when SMC believes there is a risk of overheating if allowed to run normally.

I would start off running the onboard diagnostics to see if an error pops up. If it does tell us the full details. Here’s how to get to it Use Apple Diagnostics to test your Mac

To check your battery and charging logic install this gem of an App CoconutBattery take a snapshot of the Apps main window while the charger is plugged in and post it here so we can see it as well.

How do I input my wifi password at the diagnostics menu if my keyboard doesn't work?

@ravjotbrar - you’ll need a USB wired keyboard if you have a newer Apple keyboard you can just plug-in the charging cable into the system for it to become wired.

Unfortunately, it stays stuck at the step where I type in my wifi password and hit enter. I'm going to try another battery and see if that fixes things, but if not I'm assuming it's toast.

@ravjotbrar - Are you even able to run diagnostics?
