Hi James,

Check around the J5700 connector. Ensure there are no damaged components, such as resistors or filters, caused by battery removal.

Also, check if the screws are the correct length and not too long.

If the screws are too long or any components are missing, I recommend seeking professional repair assistance.

Hi James,

Your iPhone 8 Plus uses an LCD screen, which means it has a circuit that powers a backlight. Were you absolutely certain you unplugged the battery first thing when taking apart the phone and plugged it back in as the last thing when reassembling it? Because a common issue with those LCD displays is that they are easy to short out if there's power present when connecting or disconnecting the screen. It's not at all uncommon to blow the backlight circuit, resulting in a black screen.

The way you can tell if that's the problem is to hold a flashlight up against the screen in a darkened room. Try different angles, but you should be able to make out that there's an image present. If there is, that's the backlight for sure. Most of the time you can recover by replacing the screen, although there are rare occasions when a fuse or something goes out on the motherboard. That's by far the exception though, so replacing the screen is the best bet in that case.

So get out your flashlight and carefully check the screen for a picture, then come on back and let us know what you find and we'll help you figure out what your next step should be.

I went ahead and put a new screen on and still the same results, i will look in a really dark room and see if i see anything on the new screen, have sound battery charges just no light up

@jamesbrame Yes, Make sure you use a flashlight, since you won't be able to see anything if the backlight is out. You might still have image though. I find the initial boot sequence where the Apple logo is onscreen is the easiest to see since it's high contrast.

If so, it's probably a board issue, but.a very common one.

i took it all apart and put it back together and it came on! The home button wasnt detected even though i swapped it when i tried the new screen. Wonder why? I put home button back in original screen put it back on and it worked, when you swap the home button should you swap the cables as well? My lcd came with the cables.......finicky electronics!!!!!

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@jamesbrame Huh, that's a new one on me. Given that the cable is the only variable left in your equation, it seems like that must be the answer. As Sherlock Holmes is reputed to have said, "When you've eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however unlikely, must be the answer."

So assuming you can safely swap the cables that would be the way to go.
