Repair information, service guides, and troubleshooting help for refrigerators manufactured by Frigidaire.

frigidaire - fphc2398lf5 Water Dispenser line freezing

I have a frigidaire - fphc2398lf5 - professional side by side refrigerator. It keeps freezing up inside the freezer door below the dispenser. I had a repair person look at it and he used the water buddy to free the line (which I ended up purchasing) . The hair blower started to soften the plastic and many times I had to clear the

line. If I cleared it today it would freeze up again the next day. He called frigidaire and they said it's the inlet water valve. I tested the water valve and it has 3 solenoids. 1 got 273 ohms on 2 of them and the other read 193. According to you tube it says it should read 300 and above. I replaced the valve and the same thing happened again. The inner freezer door panel cannot be removed like the older models, no screws behind the gasket.

What I've been thinking about is some kind of low voltage heat system with polymer tape or ceramic with a temperature controller and a low voltage power transformer. Any ideas?

#1 - logically, how can a bad water valve cause the line to freeze? Something a competent tech should question even if it comes form incompetent mfg support.

#2 - if it is freezing inside the door, I would say there is a mfg defect in the door - like insulation pushing the water tube against the door instead of surrounding it.

If #2 is the cause, I don't think heating tape is going to help. If it is in warranty, use the warranty.

If it is older, and has not done this in the past, then it is anybody's guess.

I had said that to fridgidaire that it must be a mfg defect but they claim that there is no record to back up my claim.

Hi @vitojdelre

Looking at the parts list for Frigidaire models FPHC2398LF1-LF4 (can't find one for -LF5 model they all have what is known as a Dispenser Heater Kit (p/n 5303918596) (example only to show image of part where you can see a small heater element)

Looking at the schematic diagram (right side of p.2 in the service data sheet (same one for all 4 models so presume it will be the same one for your model) it shows a valve heater? connected to ptd main board connector J4 / 1 & 3 terminals and also a dispenser housing heater connected to the dispenser control board J3/4 but that seems to be more associated with cubed/crushed ice dispensing than water.

It may be worthwhile to disconnect the power to the refrigerator and unplug the J4 connector wiring harness plug from the ptd main control board and then test the wiring between J4 1&3 on the plug for continuity through the heater element,, just to check if it is OK or not.
