Repair and disassembly information for Rakuten Kobo’s Libra Colour eReader, released in April 2024. Identified by model number N428.

Honestly, I don't know which part went wrong.

Hello,

Thanks for reading this. I bought my Kobo Libra colour in May 2024 but I have not been using it over a few months prior to this. Recently wanted to get back to my reading hobby so I was charging it overnight last night. Today when I tried to open my Kobo, I was unable to start it at all (the screen remained blank) no matter how long I pressed the power button. And when I tried to charge it, there was no indicated light at all, despite changing to another working USB port. Even when I connect it to my laptop, my laptop is unable to detect it like how it used to. My Kobo is now looking like a spoiled good.

Also contacted customer support and they suggested me to do both soft and hard reset (factory reset) but I was unable to do so as there was not a single response on the screen. They asked me to re-try doing the steps all over again (charge, reboot, manual factory reset) at another day to try and give it time to respond to the manual factory reset.

I've been trying for a whole day and would really appreciate if there is any other input on my issue. Thanks.

Hi @zandoff00

When you charged the tablet overnight was it fully charged in the morning or still charging?

Just verifying that this is the procedure you used to reset it?

Hi @jayeff

Thank you so much for responding to this.

For the charging part, I’m unable to identify whether it has been fully charged as the screen is remain blank and there is no power light as well.

For the reset part, yeap that is the process I attempt to reset but the screen never appeared "Powered off" hence I’m unable to proceed. I did tried to blindly follow despite the blank screen but after pressing the power and turn page button, the power light still does not blink or show as expected, and the screen still remains blank.

Hi @zandoff00

If there's no indication that the battery is charging when the charger is connected and presumably there's no obvious screen damage, the only thing that I can think of that may be the problem is that either the battery has failed beyond recovery or there's a problem on the systemboard.

Given that you got it new in May '24 then as there's a 12 month manufacturer's warranty on the device (depending on your location perhaps) which would still be valid, contact Kobo as per the advice in the warranty statement for your location and ask for a refund or replacement.

Here's a link where you can select your location. Here's the USA warranty document just as an example of what it says about warranty repairs.
