DPC-782 Part Site or Dealer?

Hi, I'm looking for a place to shop for parts for a Kenwood DPC-782. It was given to me for free, and a ffc broke inside, and I needa replace it but am having trouble finding a good site for parts (if there are any).

Hi @alvert23

There's only 1 cable mentioned in the parts list of the service manual, so presumably that's the one you're asking about.

It is part #E40-9941-05. I couldn't find any when searching for the part number online. You may have better luck.

From the schematic it appears to be a 15 wire cable. Is this correct?

Post an image of the cable (both ends) in your question so that it can be seen what it is like. That way someone may be able to suggest a compatible equivalent replacement that may work. Here's how to do this on ifixit Adding images to an existing question

Hello @jayeff, thank you for your prompt response. I honestly didn't think anyone would respond.

I've been struggling looking for the exact part number you provided. Looking at the schematic, I think that the cable might be part of the rest of the mechanism that holds the disc.

You're correct, it looks like a 15 wire cable. I wonder if it can be replaced with any other 15 wire cable or a similar part/part number.

I really appreciate you posting the service manual, I'll be analyzing more in the future looking for this part or parts.

I'm eternally grateful, and will post if I find the component, thanks!

@alvert23

Is there any information on the cable?

It seems like there is in the image you posted but I can't make it out.

If it is different to the part number then it may be the flex cable maker's ID number so you could try searching for that perhaps.

I've found that the same cable is used in a DPC 981 model also but there may be others as well.

On your first photo it appears that one end of that ribbon cable goes into a ZIF socket on the circuit board and we see that the other end is apparently broken off. It looks to me like it goes to the traveling mechanism that holds the read head, which would make sense that it broke off since it flexes probably multiple times every time a disk gets played.

I'm wondering about how that end is connected and to where exactly. If I had to guess, I'd say it goes to the spot I've circled in your second photo; does that seem right? Is the rest of the flex cable soldered on there, or is that my aged eyes playing tricks on me?
