Are whirlpool control panels and main boards interchangeable

I have a Whirlpool washer model WTW6120HCO and want to replace the control panel and main board with another Whirlpool washer model WTW5100HW0. They are both top load washers and are identical, which makes me think that they are interchangeable if I’m willing to sacrifice some function of the WTW6120HCO one. Has anyone tried this, or knows if it will work? Thanks in advance!

Hi @joncenten

The control panel assemblies are the same for both models. However, based on their respective part numbers, the control boards are slightly different.

The control board part numbers are as follows:

WTW6120HCO control board = W11543998 which supersedes the original part # W11387682

WTW5100HW0 control board = W11543996 which supersedes the original part # W11387687

Check if there's a tech sheet (W11197708 - same one for both models) located somewhere inside the control panel (or inside between the tub and cabinet) as that shows how to run the service tests which will help to find out what's wrong if something doesn't work due to the changeover

Here's an image to show the parts comprising the control panel assembly that may also help.
