Backlight after apple logo

I have an iphone XS that has had a screen replacement, the phone will power on with the apple logo, and then just the backlight will remain off. I was able to mirror the iphone on my computer and the normal OS showed on the mirror, but i am only getting the backlight on the physical device

Actually, your phone has an OLED display, which means it's based on LED technology, not LCD. Therefore it doesn't have a backlight, as each pixel generates its own light.

So what you're looking at is a bad screen, regardless of the fact that it's new. Did you do the screen replacement yourself? If so, I'd suggest opening it back up and verifying the display connector is fully seated with no bent, broken or missing pins. Check them with a magnifying glass then clean both sides with 90% or higher concentration isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol, give it a minute to dry then carefully reseat the connector. You don't need to completely reassemble it before testing it.

If you still have the original screen and it's at least partially functional, try plugging that one in to verify whether your replacement is bad or not.

If you didn't install the new screen yourself, it's time to go back to whoever did and get them to fix the issue.

I did do the screen replacement myself, I actually bought this phone off of ebay as no power, after I opened it up I realized the past owner had done a screen replacement as well, but no lights on that screen would show. Unfortunately it was not stated they had done so, so I couldn't ask for the original screen. I have taken out the motherboard and cleaned everything with IPA, it didn't help, I could possibly see about getting a replacement screen if you think it will help.

Im also wondering about it being a bad screen because it will show the apple logo and the restore screen just fine, just nothing when it boots into the OS.

@jaggerruffin Ah, that's a bit of a different situation; if you have any normal display like the apple logo then you may be looking at an operating system problem instead. Have you put the phone into DFU mode and done a complete restore? That would be my next step.

By the way, I neglected to ask; is the replacement screen you purchased an OLED screen or a cheaper LCD version? The LCD version would indeed have a backlight that could be a problem; I have no idea what kind of kludges the aftermarket industry makes to get a backlight working on a phone that didn't originally have one.

I did do a DFU restore and a normal restore, unfortunately didn't help. I was also able to get it to mirror to my computer using 3utool. The operating system was working, I was even able to get the phone minimally set up. I also noticed once it did get set up, it said that the battery wasn't original even though it was the original apple battery.

The description for the screen says lcd, is it possible that apple has made the phone where it will only work with an actual OLED?
