Replacement home button does not work (basic functionality)

On an iPad 8 I have damaged the home button cable during replacement of the glass. Actually it is the small metal thing hanging on the cable that seems to contain some circuit circuit components.
I bought a new home button and after installing that one it is not working either. I'm talking about basic functionality, not the touch function. The original home button was working before i opened the Ipad.
So, now i'm wondering why the new home button is not working.
Either damaging the old home button has damaged some circuit inside the iPad or the new home button is broken for some reason.

Thoughts on what to do?
