frig chirping randomly and temp display changes rapidly

My frig will chirp randomly and when I open the door the temp display with change from 38 to 40, 36, 48, 38 all within a few seconds chirping each time the temp changes on the display. The frig stays cold, the freezer stays frozen so it's just the annoying chirping. I had a tech over and the defrost drain was frozen over so he defrosted it and it worked fine for a few days but now it's chirping again. The drain looks clear but will still chirp randomly then go away for 3-4 hours before chirping again. Has anyone ran into anything similar?

Thanks!!

Hi @davidlarso26419

Here's the service manual for the model series.

Go to p.32 of 67 (pdf) and follow the instructions to perform the Self-diagnostic function during normal operation and then check if any error codes are being displayed.

The error codes, their meaning and possible causes are shown on p.33-p.34.

If you find the problem and it is a faulty part that needs replacing, here's the parts list that is useful.

Locate the wanted part in the list and note the manufacturer's part number that is shown with it. Search online for the part number only, to find suppliers that suit you best.

Since the chirping is random to a degree, also run the tests when it is happening in case there are no problems being shown when it doesn't happen.

Hopefully a start.

@davidlarso26419

Is it an electronic sounding chirp or a metallic mechanical sound?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@jayeff electronic......sounds like if you leave the door open but instead of doing a double chirp it will be like......chirp......chirp chirp chirp.....chirp chirp......then 6 chirps in a row, it's all random number of chirps.......if you press the frig temp to change the temp you get the same chirp sound. Also, if you open the door when it's chirping and look at the temp display the temp will randomly change with each chirp (38, 42, 50, 36.....)

Hi @davidlarso26419

Troubleshooting may be time consuming but you can only try.

My idea would be to start eliminating possibilities first

e.g.

Check the status of the defrost drain to see if it has frozen over again. If so this shouldn't be happening. Did the tech prove that the drain was clear and free flowing down to the evaporator pan or just clear the ice blocking it? If there is ice build up again and the drain is clear then either the defrost thermostat is faulty i.e. not allowing enough time for all the ice to melt properly and flow away or something else

Verify what the actual temps in the compartments are by using a thermometer and not relying on what is shown on the display,

especially when the chirping occurs. Temp sensor?

Place a mobile phone inside the compartment(s) and take a video to prove that the lights go out when the door is closed, proving that the door switch is OK. The switch also tells the control board that the door is open.

Is the compressor operating when the chirping occurs?
