What is the reason of twisted door seal?

My washing machine started leaking and I noticed the door seal became ugly like this. I chatted with LG service just to get a new replacement of seal so that I would replace by myself, but she said I should contact a local service person to diagnose if this is due to drive motor and he will order new part, but I shoudl pay the service labor. This can happen due to the drive motor malfunction? If not, I will just buy one at Amazon and replace.

Hi @euijoongkim

What is the model number of the washer?

Faulty door seals can be due to a number of reasons e,g, door hinge, latch, loose door seal fitting etc.

Does the machine shake a lot during the wash/spin cycle? If not more than usual then it's hard to imagine how the drive motor would affect the door/door seal otherwise.

washer is WM8100HVA and yes, it shakes a lot when running and moving even I put the anti vibration pads. What is the cause of broken seal then?

Hi @euijoongkim

Usually washers shaking a lot is caused by a worn or faulty shock absorbers.

When the washer is shaking badly this can affect the door seal because it is between the rotating drum and the cabinet putting pressure on the seal. The shock absorbers are there to minimize any vibrations caused by the drum rotating with a wash load.

Here's a video that shows how to replace the shock absorbers in the washer. Search online for 383EER3001J to find suppliers that suit you best.

If the door seal needs to be replaced as well, search online for MDS47123608 to find suppliers that suit you best.

Thank you so much. One more question. For the shock absorber, can I use this instead of "J" ?

I think I can but just want to confirm.

@euijoongkim

In the link you posted it states that it replaces part #383EER3001J so I assume that it is compatible with it.

I only referenced the part number as it was being shown by two different appliance parts suppliers as the one for the shock absorbers used in your model washer.

You'll soon know if it is OK or not if it fits correctly ;-)

Cheers
