Toshiba BDX3200KY not turning on

Hi all, I hadn’t used my Toshiba BDX3200KY in a while and just went to turn it on, but it will not power up.

I tested with remote, yet not working. I picked it up and heard a rattle, then proceeded to open the device up and look for anything unusual. I noticed something on the power board, which I will include. I’m not at all versed with fixing electronics, but Interested to learn and see if this is possible to fix.

Thanks in advance.

Hi @jayeff ,

Thank you for the reply! I took another photo, I will upload.. from what I can tell, it reads:

TNY179PN

99003B

However I could be wrong.. If you would like any more photos, please let me know.

Also, do these type of faults occur due to lack of use? I hadn’t used this player in a while, so that’s all I could put it down to, in my mind.

Thanks again! Sorry for delay.

Hi @nickabar

What information is printed on the piece that you put back?

It is too small to read from the image you posted even when zoomed in, but it looks like some sort of power regulator IC, given its location on the board but without knowing what type of IC it is,it will be hard to replace as it is obviously damaged.

Toshiba aren't known for supplying service information online. Also I cannot find a replacement power board by looking for either the board number or just Toshiba BDX3200KY parts, so hopefully there's still information legible on the faulty component.

Hi @nickabar

For the IC to fail like it has it is more due to some other problem causing it to malfunction.

It won't fail through lack of use ;-)

Given that Toshiba doesn't provide the schematics for its products and as it is not that expensive the easiest option is to replace it and check what happens.

Search online for TNY179PN to find suppliers that suit you best. (supplier examples only). Maybe get two or three just in case it blows again and you want to try and find out why it happens

You will need soldering skills and tools to do the repair.
