Why is my VCR not feeding tapes correctly?

My VCR (Samsung dvd4600-c) spills tapes for a few seconds and then rewinds and stops. The band on the bottom is still tight and the idle gear doesn’t look cracked or worn. What else could be causing it?

Video attached shows issue.

While I can't directly answer your question, from my recent journey in trying to repair a couple of my own VCRs, one common theme popped up which is you may try cleaning what is called the Mode Switch. It's a device in the VCR responsible for knowing and controlling what mode the VCR is in, such as play, rewind, etc.

Look up your particular model on Youtube and see if any videos show where and how to clean it on your machine. Sometimes it is very similar just within the same brand.

Oddly just moving the gears with fast forwards and rewinds seemed to fix it. However thank you for answering with your insight.

That sometimes does the trick! My pleasure. While you're in there you might look up how to lubricate some parts for good continued operation. Just a suggestion.
