Released in November 2020, the 13" MacBook Pro features Apple's Arm-based M1 SoC with both an 8-core CPU and 8-core GPU. (Model A2338 / EMC 3578 with two Thunderbolt 3 ports)

Where is the lid angle sensor located on the MacBook Pro M1 (2020)? After cleaning the speaker, the lid angle sensor stopped working. When I close the lid, the screen stays on and the MacBook does not go to sleep. Before cleaning the speaker, it was working perfectly. Can you help me locate the lid angle sensor?

The Hall sensor is mounted on the backside of the logic board which I’ve marked here. This is not an angle sensor design which is used on the 15” models.

Using a rare earth magnet passing it over the top surface of the palm rest you should be able to fire it off. If not could you have damaged it?

If that’s indeed its proper place, it should be out of reach. Could it be possible that it got dirty while cleaning the speaker?

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@maulanarafi - Dirt won’t effect it, but some liquids could effect things here, basically creating a short. How did you clean the speakers? Did you use a water based cleaner or one with ammonia.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@danj No, I didn’t use water. But could it be fragile? I only used a used toothbrush to clean the dust from the speaker holes.

crwdns2934271:0crwdnd2934271:0crwdne2934271:0

@maulanarafi - Well… I wouldn’t call it fragile, but like most SMD devices the solder joints hold the part to the PCB so it’s possible to knock it off. But there are other components also involved in the sensor for it to work. So you will need to compare the logic board with the one I posted to see around the area if there is a component missing. You’ll also need to look on the other side as well as not everything is on one side.
