@oken try a USB keyboard and see if that works. You most likely have a failed keyboard. The keyboard backlight is a different circuit then the keys. Replacement keyboards are available at many places. For instructions on how to remove the keyboard. See if the instructions on the bottom of this site will help.
While you work on your laptop, take lots of pictures. Once you are done with it, take those pictures and create a guide for iFixit.
