Not cooling or freezing

Top not cooling and bottom not freezing. Bottom stopped working first. Was making a rattling noise, but now no noise at all. Lights work. Is the compressor dead the only answer? If so, is it worth replacing? Refrigerator is 5 years old, model RF260BEAESR.

Hi @maybediy

It doesn't have to be a dead compressor. There may be another problem external to the compressor that is preventing it from starting

Here's the service manual that may help.

Perform the Self-diagnostic function during normal operation procedure as shown towards the bottom of p.49 and check what error code (if any) is shown.

Hopefully a start to finding out what's going on.

Thank you for the suggestion. I ran the self diagnostic, which ran for 58 secs, it returned no error message. The display simply returned to normal.

@maybediy

Follow the "When compressor does not run (Inverter COMP)" troubleshooting flowchart on p.73 (74 of 97) and check if it leads anywhere.
