Why is my disc not spinning?

When I enter a disc in the PlayStation, it doesn't spin and there is a slight clicking noise. I already opened it up and attempted to clean the laser head with a cotton swab. This did not fix the issue unfortunately. What can I do to fix this problem?

Hi!

It could be the laser that is broken. OR the sensor. There are 2 of them. 1 is on the power switch and the other one on the motherboard. Please check them both. Replacing the laser is a first nice step to check if this solves it. Most of the time it’s the PVR-802W, but you need to check first before you order one.

If you need a guide, please let me know!

I think it is indeed the sensor next to power switch. I took it apart and the part looks quite worn. Where is the other sensor located exactly? I'd like to check that one as well before getting any replacement parts.

Ahh, this can be the case yes.

Here are some pictures of where the sensors are located: https://gbatemp.net/threads/problems-reg... (Please scroll down to see the pictures).

I opened it again and tested running a disc while manually pressing down both buttons. The disc started spinning immediately. So that means no issue with the sensors apparently. The plastic mechanism meant to press on them then had some problem most likely. However now, after pressing it seems to be working properly again. I think there might have some block or something that got unlodged or reseated after pressing manually. Thanks for the assistance! I can continue from here.

Ah! Glad that you’ve found it so far! Please keep us posted. Probably something blocked there..
